A Walk in the Woods

Growing up in the East Mountains, my first thought when I think of nature is of the mountains.

At over 10,000 feet, the rugged scenery of the Sandia Mountains creates a stunning backdrop to Albuquerque and the surrounding area. The hiking trails, panoramic overlooks, ski area, and Sandia Peak Tramway foster a strong connection to nature while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Our watermelon mountains are a source of pride for many of us, their presence and ever-changing beauty is undeniable.

Here are a few books from our collection that may “peak” your interest in the Sandias:

A Walk around Campus

UNM campus is another great place to appreciate nature.

In 1994, UNM was designated as an arboretum, offering a botanical collection of trees. As you are walking around campus, why not stop and take the UNM Arboretum Tour. Look for identification signs at the base of the trees. The online tour also provides the names of the trees at each stop.
