April is Jazz Appreciation Month!

Jazz Appreciation Month was started in 2002 at the Smithsonian Institute to celebrate and honor this uniquely American art form. 2017 is the centennial of Ella Fitzgerald's birth, and the Smithsonian has chosen to honor women jazz musicians this year in her honor.

Jazz originated in the early twentieth century American through an amalgamation of European-American, tribal African, and African-American folk music. Learn more about the origins of Jazz:
