The College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (CULLS) is excited to announce the premiere of the documentary film, Harvest: A Lorenzo Candelaria Story, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at FUSION, 708 1st St NW, Albuquerque.
This captivating film tells the inspiring story of Lorenzo Candelaria, a seventh-generation New Mexican farmer dedicated to sustainable agriculture. "Harvest" explores Candelaria's deep connection to the land, his innovative farming practices, and his commitment to preserving traditional ways of life. The Candelaria’s farm was started in 1692 and is maintained to this day by the family.
Born in 1946, Lorenzo's passion for cultivating healthy, sustainable food was deeply rooted in his belief that "the land is paramount."
Beyond farming, Lorenzo's interests were as diverse as his land. He was a renowned winemaker, musician, and a pioneer in the revival of blue corn flour. His dedication to food production extended beyond his own fields, as he mentored countless students in the art of sustainable agriculture.
“Lorenzo's legacy inspires future generations to embrace a sustainable and harmonious relationship with the land,” and we are so grateful to capture his numerous gifts to our community in this film,” said Carol Kennedy, Director of Development, College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences and Honors College.
The film was created in collaboration with Emmett Williams of LISTEN.TELL.MEDIA, Dayna Diamond, multimedia development specialist for the Adobe Creative Commons, UNM Film & Digital Arts Department. All of this was made possible by the generosity of Pat Wheeler on behalf of Lief Gonnsen.
