Flat-rate automatic textbook billing, or what UNM is calling a course materials fee, is a charge billed to all undergraduate students on UNM's main campus, regardless of the courses a student takes.
Under this bookstore sales model, all undergraduate students' bursar accounts will be automatically charged a $279 course material fee, unless they opt out. For some students, $279 will be low compared to what they have previously paid. For other students, $279 will be more than they have ever paid.
Some teachers don't require books from the bookstore. Some teachers use open educational resources. Some teachers assign library resources. Because of this variation, $279 may be more than what you NEED to pay for the books in your classes. If that's the case, you may want to opt out of the course materials fee, and buy or find your materials elsewhere. Or maybe you like having your books delivered to your course on the first day, and you don't want to think about buying college textbooks ever again. The choice is yours.

Students can opt-out entirely of UNM Course Materials Access and purchase their course materials on their own.
You can opt-out using the link provided in the email you will receive at the start of the term or through the My Bookshelf link in Canvas, until the opt-out deadline.
The opt-out deadlines coincide with the Registrar’s “Last Day to Drop Without a ‘W’ Grade and 100% Tuition Refund” on LoboWeb. For more details, visit the Registrar’s Deadlines.
Yes, you can re-enroll in the Complete Program through Canvas, as long as it is before the opt-out deadline.
If you opt out of both the Complete and Select Programs, you can still special order and purchase print textbooks or eBooks (if available) directly from the UNM Bookstore.
