Many publishers offer options for researchers to publish their work with an open license. Typically, this involves payment of an article process charge (APC) by the author or their institution. Funds to cover APC can come from a variety of sources, including budgeted grant funds, contractual agreements between an publisher and an institution, and dedicated pools of funds set aside by libraries or research support offices.
The University of New Mexico Libraries does not provide funds for individual APC, which vary from publisher to publisher but average $3000 per article. For information on grants and other funding opportunities relative to APC, please see the Open Access Fees tab of this guide.
Alternatively, the Libraries do enter into agreements with publishers through which our subscription costs include a certain number of APC or other OA publishing options for UNM affiliated authors. Information about the publishers with whom we currently have agreements is provided below.
