Finding Information about Journals

Journal Citation Reports This link opens in a new window
JCR ranks journals in a variety of fields using algorithms like the Impact Factor. It is selective in coverage, but can be a good place to start.
Web of Science Core Collection This link opens in a new window
The Citation Report allows you to search for a particular topic and see which articles are most highly cited. The Results Analysis tool shows which journals have published the most articles for a given search.
Google Scholar This link opens in a new window
Google Scholar's Metrics has rankings by discipline. Google Scholar's Cited By tool can help identify related articles (or can be used as a measure of impact).
Google Scholar will link to some--not all--of the online resources to which the University Libraries subscribes. Use the "Check full text @ UNM" link to see if the resource is available through a UNM subscription. It may also be helpful to look up the journal or citation through UNM eJournals tool.

Eigenfactor
Eigenfactor offers an alternative to the Impact Factor. The website has rankings for the various disciplines, but also some interesting disciplinary mapping tools.

Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Educational curriculum and methods (print book)
Contains information on over 360 journals that assist professors and graduate students in publishing their manuscripts.

MLA Directory of Periodicals This link opens in a new window
The MLA Directory of Periodicals offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, with 4,400 currently indexed in the Modern Language Association International Bibliography.
