Most Master’s level courses will be offered in an 8-week format, with a few exceptions. The 8-week format is a permanent change meant to help students complete their degrees on track. Students entering the program for the first time can begin at the start of any 8-week session.
The first 8-week session will start on August 21 and end on October 14. The second 8-week session will start on October 16 and end on December 16. The same content from a 16 week course will be delivered in 8 weeks instead of 16 weeks.
Students should be ready to fully engage in classes starting day one. OI&LS faculty recommend taking only one 8 week course at a time - particularly for students who are employed full time – due to the demands of the shortened timeline. In the course schedule, the 8-week courses will be denoted as H1 (first half) or H2 (second half).
The MA program now has five different concentrations requiring 15 hours of core requirements and 15 hours of concentration requirements:
Current students should contact the OI&LS Program Office at oils@unm.edu, 505.277.4131 or their advisor to discuss how these changes might affect their program of study. Visit the OI&LS webpage at oils.unm.edu to find out more.
