Covid-19: Options for Library Resources & Services

Physical library items

Temporary Access to Book Scans

  • Through our participation in HathiTrust, we temporarily have access to scanned versions of over 800,000 books that we own in print. You can search HathiTrust after choosing University of New Mexico as the partner institution and logging in with your NetID. These items can also be found in our catalog. Please note that items available through HathiTrust cannot be borrowed via our carryout service.
Note: This access will end as of August 17th.

Returning Items

You can return all library books, including InterLibrary Loan materials, via the book returns located at the following central campus locations:

  • Parish Memorial Library book return, accessible for drive up returns on Las Lomas (next to the Anderson School of Management)
  • Zimmerman Library north and south entrance book entrances.
  • Centennial Science & Engineering Library book return.

Please allow three business days for returned items to be cleared from your account.

Overdue items

You can renew your items online (instructions for doing this) from the library website.   If you can't renew online or are having trouble renewing, please contact us at libacc@unm.edu.

We recognize the exceptional circumstances of the past few months and will not assess fines for late returns because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

For items that were overdue prior to March 16, please contact us at libacc@unm.edu.

Separation Checklist

I am retiring. Who can help me complete the library part of the Separation Checklist?

Contact our Ask a Librarian service and we will help you through the process. We are available by chat M-F, 9am to 6pm or by email.

Please note that in order to provide our confirmation/signature on the form, we will need to confirm that you have returned any Interlibrary loan and UNM Libraries materials checked out to you. Our book returns are open to help with this process.

Other Materials

What should I do with items such as calculators or keys?

We ask that you do not return equipment such as calculators to library book returns. Please return them to a service desk when our libraries re-open.

Library staff will reach out to everyone with study room keys to make arrangements for their future return.
