Welcome!

What's a Learning Lagniappe?

Learning Lagniappes are small study groups for UL  staff that gather to investigate one discrete thing about public services librarianship, whether that's a theory, a teaching technique, an approach, an interesting research finding, or something else. Groups might decide to develop ongoing goals and continued study, or end after a single session.

How do Learning Lagniappes work?

One or two library employees will lead a lagniappe on a topic they would like to explore with a group of colleagues. Browse through the Upcoming Lagniappes tab to view details about individual topics, dates, locations, and registration.

Participants register for a lagniappe and will typically need to do some reading or preparation before the session. After attending the lagniappe, participants will be asked to complete a reflection on what they learned and how they might use that knowledge.

What does lagniappe mean?

(pronunciations: LAN-yap or lan-YAP)

"Something given over and above what is purchased, earned, etc., to make good measure or by way of gratuity." (OED)

"An extra or unexpected gift or benefit, such as that given to customers when they purchase something." (Wiktionary)
