Three Peoples Murals in Zimmerman Library

The UNM Mural Coalition records include student and community generated meeting minutes, agendas, flyers, announcements and clippings. This box contains three collections from the 1990s: These materials are available for use at the Center for Southwest Research.

At the Board of Regents meetings, the Mural Coalition proposed the installation of an explanatory plaque, a modern mural across from the current murals, and the ability for public input on the murals. The notes can be found on page eight of the PDF document.

The Mural Coalition proposed a revised plan for the explanatory plaque and other measures of reparation. The notes can be found on page twelve of the PDF document.

Proposal submitted by the campus Mural Coalition to Board of Regents Student Affairs Committee which proposed: (1) an explanation plaque near the murals and (2) commission of a new mural. The proposal was tabled by the Board of Regents.

Short report out from Senate President stating 'Students concerned with the "racist, sexist, and pro-science murals(') in the west wing of Zimmerman Library have proposed to the Regents that several steps be taken: (1) a "deconstructionist" plaque in front of the current murals; (2) a book there for viewers' comments; (3) a new mural adjacent to the older ones that addresses the "historical inaccuracies" and other concerns raised by them."
