Online Course Advisory Council’s Best Practices Certification awarded to Assistant Professor Lea Briggs

Photo of Assistant Professor Lea BriggsLea Briggs was honored for her outstanding accomplishment at an award ceremony, sponsored by the UNM Center for Teaching & Learning held on May 3.

Briggs’ course section for OILS 320 ­– Information Management for Professionals – was reviewed by three peer instructors who have taught online and who were selected by the Online Course Advisory Council.  The review process evaluates online courses for the UNM Online Best Practices Rubric standards in 5 Categories: Course Overview and Introduction, Instructional Elements, Interaction and Collaboration, Assessment and Feedback, and Course Evaluation.

The UNM rubric was developed at the direction of the Provost by faculty members serving on the Online Course Advisory Council and were approved by the Faculty Senate Teaching Enhancement Committee. 

Lea Briggs is the Special Projects and LIBROS Consortium Coordinator for the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences. She manages special projects and reporting for the University Libraries. She is also the administrator for the LIBROS Consortium, a group of 17 academic and special libraries in New Mexico. 

During her more than 20 years of experience in libraries, she has held positions in reference, instruction, project management, public services, technical services, and administration. Her research interests center around management of libraries and provision of services to distance students. Briggs earned a Doctor of Education in Education Administration (Ed.D.) with a specialization in Adult & Higher Education from the University of South Dakota, an M.L.S. from Emporia State University, and a B.S. in Business Administration - Accounting, from Northern State University.
