To the new students who can’t wait to explore the UNM campus:  What if you could get an early taste of all the best the UNM Libraries have to offer you? And what if you could experience it whenever and wherever you like? Now you can.

UNM Libraries is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Library Virtual Open House

What to Expect

Just as if you attended a live open house event, you will have a chance to visit numerous “booths” where you can learn about the people, places, and collections that make up the library. Some booths offer quick video introductions or provide informative handouts you can download. You can get a feel for library’s comfortable spaces and get to know the services available to you as a UNM student. There’s even a booth inviting students interested in working at the library to apply for jobs. Feel free to visit only the booths that interest you.

You can visit the virtual open house both before and after school starts. Want a refresher later? It will remain available online throughout the fall semester.

Win Fabulous Prizes!

People who attend the virtual open house by September 19, 2021 are eligible for fun door prizes. All you need to do to win is fill out the feedback form after viewing the virtual open house.

The first fifty (50) students who let us know what they think about the open house will receive a mystery gift they can pick up at the library in August.

An Exciting Pilot Project

Sharing your opinions about the virtual open house is important because the event represents an experiment by the library. Your honest feedback means a lot to us as we plan future library online and in-person events.

Adrienne Warner, the First Year Experience Librarian noted, “The Library is here to help you, perhaps in more ways than you would expect. We hope this Virtual Open House will familiarize you with the range of services we offer, but even more than that, we hope the Library will stick in your memory as a place where friendly people are ready to help. Let us know if we succeeded!”

Many people from all different departments in UNM Libraries contributed to the open house project to make it as complete and entertaining as possible.

“I’m glad to have a chance to welcome students who might not otherwise find the science library, particularly since it’s underground,” STEM Librarian Holly Surbaugh said. “CSEL [Centennial Science & Engineering Library] is great study spot for anyone, not just science students.”

Visit Soon!

Please join us at the virtual open house, and spread the word to your friends, too. Then visit the library buildings as soon as you can. We can’t wait to meet you in person!
