UNM Press Books Honored at the 2018 New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards

Winners of the 2018 New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards were announced at an annual banquet held on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Tanoan Country Club in Albuquerque. The awards are managed by the New Mexico Book Co-op and are judged by a group of librarians, teachers, booksellers, and book marketing experts. The awards honor the best books in New Mexico and Arizona. Titles published by the University of New Mexico Press won nine awards, as follows:


The Archaeology and History of Pueblo San Marcos: Change and Stability, edited by Ann F. Ramenofsky and Kari L. Schleher, won for Anthropology/Archaeology
Sisters in Blue: Sor María de Ágreda Comes to New Mexico, by Anna M. Nogar and Enrique R. Lamadrid and illustrated by Amy Córdova, won for Juvenile Book
My Heart Belongs to Nature: A Memoir in Photographs and Prose, by John Nichols, won for Nature/Environment Book
Tortillas, Tiswin, and T-Bones: A Food History of the Southwest, by Gregory McNamee, won for Nonfiction: Other
Skiing New Mexico: A Guide to Snow Sports in the Land of Enchantment, by Daniel Gibson, won for Sports/Recreation
Eco-Travel New Mexico: 86 Natural Destinations, Green Hotels, and Sustainable Adventures, by Ashley M. Biggers, won for Travel Book
Critical Assembly: Poems of the Manhattan Project, by John Canaday, won for Best Cover Design: Fiction (6 × 9)
Into the Great White Sands, by Craig Varjabedian, won the Father Thomas J. Steele Award for History
Whither the Waters: Mapping the Great Basin from Bernardo de Miera to John C. Frémont, by John L. Kessell, won the Father Thomas J. Steele Award for History
