Indigenous Reflections Film Project

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The “Indigenous Reflections Film Project” organized by the University Libraries Indigenous Nations Library Program launches in March. The project goal is to encourage Indigenous student creation, communication and technological collaboration by providing a platform for their Indigenous voices. This year’s inaugural short film theme is “How do you bring your community to the University of New Mexico?”

Students should use their cell phone to shoot video and edit it on the Adobe Creative Cloud platform to develop a short film between 3 and 10 minutes with a fully developed storyline. The submission deadline is April 24.

The first ten students who submit will receive a $50 Lobo Cash Card.

Film Submission Criteria:

·    Currently enrolled students are eligible to enter

·    1 entry per film maker

·    All videos must be recorded with a cell phone only within the time frame given (March 1 – April 24)

·    Videos must be edited on Adobe Premiere or Premiere Rush

·    Videos must be between 3 and 10 minutes

·    Most genres accepted: Experimental, Narrative, Fiction, Documentary, Music Video Styled Shorts, and others

·    Projects should be uploaded to the INLP shared folder here.

Workshops by Native Film Maker, Kristin Maria are scheduled starting March 10 to help students with developing, creating and editing their film projects. All workshops will be held in the INLP Conference Room for the following date and times.

Meet the Instructor: Kristin Maria

Kristin Maria is from the Ramah Navajo Indian Reservation in Ramah, NM. She currently lives and works in Albuquerque, NM. She is a digital multi-media artist who holds her BFA in Graphic Design from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. She practices multimedia visual communications including graphic design and film using digital media.

She has been awarded numerous merit scholarships and had an apprenticeship with the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts as a Graphic Design Assistant. Maria, also received a micro-grant from Homewise and the One Albuquerque’s Engage program for her film festival directorial debut, Reservation Longing (2019). Her recent work with experimental film includes abstract narratives that deal with themes of family, relationships, death, spirituality, healing and how she identifies herself as a Diné Asdzáá (Navajo Woman) while raising her only son in the city. She is currently an MFA candidate at Southwestern University of Visual Arts in Albuquerque, NM. For more information please visit her website.www.kmariart.com
