University Libraries will not be reopening on August 17 as originally anticipated. University Libraries will continue to offer a high level of service online for the start of the semester while library buildings – Zimmerman, Fine Arts & Design, and Centennial Science and Engineering – remain temporarily closed. Parish Library has been permanently closed as of July 1 for the transition to a staff-only library services building. We are delaying our opening to the UNM community while we complete the implementation of safety measures related to COVID-19 and ensure all student employees have been orientated on new procedures.
Online services include instruction for students, reference consultations, electronic content, scanning, and emailing articles. University Libraries will continue our book Carryoutarryout service with pickups several times per week and continue to offer access to the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections by appointment. As interlibrary loan and resource sharing gradually restore, we will also fully provide and participate in those services with our sharing partners.
Centennial Library, the Fine Arts and Design Library, and Zimmerman Library will reopen when safety training is completed and health measures are in place.
Library Help, Instruction Sessions and Research Consultations
Quick questions can be answered virtually through Ask a Librarian. In-depth questions can be directed to Ask a Librarian or scheduled through online appointments with our Subject Librarians. Online appointments can also be scheduled with the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections, Research Data Services, Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communication, and Government Information. Instructors can contact the subject librarian assigned to your department to discuss library sessions for your classes. Individuals with accessibility concerns may request accommodations when scheduling an appointment.
Course Materials Support
Campus instructors have been strongly urged to only have electronic reserves for the fall semester. Safety protocols for physical library materials (72 hour quarantine) present barriers for access when many students must consult the same item in a short time period. We are supporting this shift through scanning and persistent URL provision, identification of Open Educational Resources options, ebook and streaming media assistance, and referrals to UNM Bookstore services where appropriate. Find out more about course reserves in this guide.
