Dear students,

Due to COVID-19 precautions, we have made the decision that all OILS courses will be taught online for the rest of the semester. This includes courses 101, 545, 583, 593, 639, and 642.

For one-on-one courses such as directed readings and problems as well as practicums and theses/dissertation progress meetings, you can meet one-on-one if you choose; however, please remember to take all precautions, including social distancing and disinfecting. For theses/dissertations hearings and defenses, OGS advises us that:

“Current students and their committees preparing for thesis or dissertation defenses might be wary of gathering face-to-face, especially for larger public defenses. While academic policy calls for defenses to be open to the public and it recommends highly that all participants convene in person, we realize that the extenuating health circumstances we are all facing might warrant an alternative defense practice, such as Zoom or Skype group video conferences. We encourage the student and committee to agree on a suitable alternative format, with special care that the student in particular has equitable, viable access to the suggested alternative format.”

Please use the same practices for comprehensive examinations.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or need any assistance.

Program Director of OILS
